Gotta be honest... if I hadn't read The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny first, I probably wouldn't have finished this one. Well, I would have finished it, because I hate not finishing books, but I wouldn't have moved on to the next book. (And I'm still dragging my feet in that regard.)
Nothing really happens in this book. There's lots of talk about a pending war, and who's going to do what to start it, and who's prophesied to end it, but no real action. The most exciting part of the book comes toward the end, when Geralt is the target of an elite brotherhood of highly trained assassins, and even that ends as swiftly as Geralt can swing his sword.
To me, this book needed less talk and more action. Hopefully the next one is better.
